Dental Bridges
Spans a gap using neighbouring teeth for support, where an implant isn't suitable or wanted.
A bridge replaces a missing tooth by joining a false tooth to crowns on the teeth either side. It is faster than an implant and needs no surgery, at the cost of preparing two healthy neighbours to carry it.
How it's done
-
01
Assessment
The supporting teeth are checked — they must be sound enough to carry the extra load for years.
-
02
Preparation
Both abutment teeth are prepared for crowns.
-
03
Scan and temporary
A provisional bridge is fitted while the final is made.
-
04
Fitting
Fit, bite and the shape underneath the false tooth are checked before cementing.
Who it suits
A single gap with healthy teeth on both sides, in someone who cannot have implant surgery or does not want to wait months.
Where it falls short
Two healthy teeth are cut down permanently, and the bone under the gap continues to shrink because nothing replaces the root. Cleaning underneath takes a threader and real discipline.
Recovery
Mild sensitivity in the prepared teeth for a week or two.
