Porcelain Veneers
Layered porcelain veneers — slightly more opaque than E-max, and more forgiving on dark teeth.
Conventional feldspathic or layered porcelain veneers do the same job as E-max at a lower price, with slightly less translucency. That opacity is occasionally an advantage: a tooth that is badly discoloured, or one that has darkened after a root canal, is easier to mask.
How it's done
-
01
Assessment
The surgeon checks whether the discolouration can be masked at the thickness available, or whether a crown is the more predictable answer.
-
02
Preparation
A thin layer is removed from the front surface, comparable to E-max preparation.
-
03
Temporaries
Provisional veneers protect the prepared teeth and let you judge the shape.
-
04
Fabrication
The lab builds the veneer up in layers of porcelain, firing between each.
-
05
Bonding
Final try-in for shade and fit, then resin bonding.
Who it suits
People wanting the veneer result at a lower cost per tooth, and cases where masking a dark tooth matters more than maximum translucency.
Where it falls short
Slightly less lifelike than E-max under direct light. Same fracture risk if you grind and don't wear a guard.
Recovery
Similar to E-max — short-lived sensitivity, no downtime.
