Teeth Whitening
In-clinic power whitening, usually done before any impressions so new work matches the lighter shade.
A peroxide gel is applied to the teeth and activated, breaking down the staining molecules within the enamel. In-clinic whitening works faster and reaches shades that home kits generally can't, under supervision that protects the gums.
How it's done
-
01
Clean first
Scaling comes first — whitening gel cannot penetrate through plaque or tartar.
-
02
Gum protection
A barrier is placed over the gum margins to prevent chemical burns.
-
03
Gel application
The gel sits for a set period, usually in two or three cycles within one appointment.
-
04
Shade check
Progress is measured against a shade guide between cycles rather than by eye.
Who it suits
Natural teeth with general yellowing or staining from coffee, tea, red wine or smoking.
Where it falls short
Whitening does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings. If you have visible restorations, they will need replacing to match the new shade — which is why whitening is always sequenced first.
Recovery
Sensitivity to cold for 24–72 hours is common and normal. Avoid strongly coloured food and drink for the first two days.
