Why dental work costs less in Türkiye

A Straumann implant leaves the same factory in Basel regardless of where it is placed. The price difference between Istanbul and Chicago is almost entirely in the cost of the room around it.

Why dental work costs less in Türkiye

What does not change

Implant systems are global products with global pricing. Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem and Neodent sell the same components to clinics worldwide, and the wholesale difference between markets is modest.

The same applies to zirconia blanks, E-max ingots, composite resin and bonding agents. The materials in your mouth after treatment in Istanbul can be identical to those used at home.

Clinical protocols are also international. Osseointegration takes three to four months everywhere. Immediate loading requires the same stability thresholds. The biology does not care about the exchange rate.

Where the difference actually comes from

  • Labour. Dental salaries and support staff wages differ several-fold between markets. A clinic employing twelve people carries a fraction of the payroll of an equivalent US practice.
  • Property. Rent per square metre in an Istanbul clinical district versus a US metropolitan one is a large, recurring difference.
  • Malpractice insurance. Professional indemnity premiums in the United States are among the highest in the world and are built into every fee.
  • Administrative overhead. US practices carry substantial billing and insurance-administration staffing that simply does not exist in a cash-pay market.
  • Currency. Clinics earn in a weaker currency while patients pay from a stronger one.
  • Volume. A surgeon performing 600 full-arch cases a year has lower per-case fixed costs than one performing 60 — and, incidentally, more practice.

What the numbers look like

TreatmentUnited StatesTürkiye
Single implant (Turkish system)~$4,500$400
Zirconium crown~$1,500$160–$220
Porcelain veneer~$1,800$200–$300
Hollywood Smile (20–28 units)~$36,000$3,200–$5,400
All-on-4 (both jaws)~$52,000$7,040–$12,880

Türkiye figures are the rates we’ve negotiated. United States figures are indicative market estimates and vary widely by state and practice.

What the saving does not buy you

It does not buy proximity. If something needs adjusting six weeks later, you are a flight away. That is the genuine trade, and it is why aftercare arrangements matter more than the headline price.

It does not remove the need for two trips on implant cases. Osseointegration is not negotiable.

It does not guarantee quality. The variation between clinics within Türkiye is far wider than the variation between Türkiye and elsewhere. The saving is real; the vetting still has to happen.

When it stops making financial sense

Travel costs are largely fixed regardless of how much treatment you have. Flights and a week's accommodation might total $1,200 to $1,800 from the United States.

For a single crown at $180, that arithmetic does not work — you would spend more on the trip than on the dentistry. For a single implant, it is roughly break-even. The economics become compelling from around four or five units upward, and overwhelming for full-arch cases.

Questions worth asking about a low price

Very low quotes usually explain themselves in one of a few ways: an unnamed implant system, a provisional bridge being presented as the final restoration, grafting excluded from the quote, or the second trip not being priced at all.

None of these is necessarily dishonest, and some clinics genuinely are cheaper because their premises are unglamorous and they do not advertise. The way to tell the difference is to ask what the quote excludes and which specific implant brand is being placed.

Common questions

Not inherently. The cost difference is driven by labour, property and insurance rather than materials. Quality varies by clinic and operator, which is why verifying the specific clinic matters more than the country.

They can be identical — the same implant systems and ceramics are sold globally. Ask for the specific brand name and the implant documentation to confirm what you are actually receiving.

Typically 60% to 85% on the dentistry itself compared with US pricing, before travel costs. The proportion is highest on large cases where travel is a small share of the total.

Reputable arrangements have you pay the treating clinic directly, usually at the clinic, rather than paying an agency in advance.
